Flights arrive at Portland Internation Airport (http://www.pdx.com/) which is about 20 minutes from downtown Portland. Information about car rentals and other transportation options can be found on the PDX web site (http://www.portofportland.com/PDX_Grnd_Trnsprtn.aspx).

Cabs

Broadway Cab (503) 227-1234 (www.broadwaycab.com/)

Trains
Union Station is located in downtown Portland on the west side of the Willamette River. The address is 800 NW Sixth Avenue, Portland, OR 97209. There is light rail/streetcar service from the station to points south, east and west.

Three Amtrak routes serve Portland. The Cascades provides multiple daily round-trips to Eugene, Oregon (to the south) and Seattle, Washington (to the north) with additional service to Vancouver in British Columbia. The Empire Builder provides daily service to Chicago via Minneapolis/St. Paul. The Coast Starlight provides daily service between Seattle and Los Angeles via the Bay Area.

Driving & Parking
Driving directions can be found on the Reed College website: http://www.reed.edu/apply/gettingtoreed

Rideshare
We are arranging ride-shares through Google Docs. If you’ve agreed to participate in the rideshare, we will be granting you edit rights to this document after you register.

Getting to the Benson Hotel from PDX
Round-trip shuttle service from the Portland International Airport to The Benson Hotel is available through Blue Star.

Updated directions for getting to the hotel using light rail:
You will find the MAX train outside baggage claim. They depart every 15 minutes. Buy a $2.50 ticket out of the machine before you board. When you cross the river into downtown the 6th stop will be Pioneer Square. A large brick square where the visitor center and a Starbucks is located. Walk up to the front of the train and turn right on Broadway walking against the traffic. The hotel will be 4 blks down on the left just past Stark & Broadway. Have a safe journey in.

Getting to Reed College from the Benson Hotel
Our suggestion is to take the 19 bus which runs direct from near the Benson (5th and Stark) to Reed (32nd & Woodstock). The ride takes 30-40 minutes depending on intermediate stops, which vary.

Lodging

Attendees are responsible for arranging their own lodging. We recommend staying at The Benson, which is located in downtown Portland. Note: this is a change from the original recommendation, The Ace.

  • The Benson
  • $125 per night

Online Collaboration

Social Media
The hashtag for  Moodle Hack/Doc Fest is #mdlhackfest

Redmine
All of our online conversations and issue tracking/discussions will happen in Redmine, our online collaboration suite. You can use your CLAMP username and password to login to redmine. If you don’t have an account (and everyone should by now) please contact Ken Newquist at Lafayette College (newquisk@lafayette.edu, 610-330-5759)

Jabber
For backchannel conversations at Hack/Doc Fest we’re going to be using Jabber, an instant messaging client. We’ve setup a Jabber server on the CLAMP-IT.org web site that you can authenticate to using your CLAMP username and password. If you’re on a Mac, we recommend using the Adium client to connect to the server; we’ve had issues with iChat.

  • Pidgin Instant Messaging Client (Windows): http://www.pidgin.im/
  • Adium Instant Messaging Client (Mac): http://adium.im/
  • Jabber Client Settings:
    • Jabber ID: [clamp ID]@clamp-it.org
    • Password: Your CLAMP Password

Virtual Participation
As at previous Hack/Doc Fests, we will be paring people at Hack/Doc Fest with virtual counterparts to work on particular tasks/bugs. Virtual participants should be prepared to start working on Hack/Doc projects at 10 a.m. on each day of Hack/Doc Fest.

Itinerary

This is a tentative itinerary for Moodle Hack/Doc Fest. Hack/Doc is a very ad hoc event; we typically come up with a plan the first day of the event, break up into teams, and then get to work. This itinerary exists to provide a rough overview of our schedule, and is subject to change on site.

We will be holding a pre-event Hack/Doc Orientation on Tuesday, December 4, 2012; conference information will be sent to attendees after they register.
